Artist Statement
I am a material girl, creating my material world. I am strongly attached to fiber: fabric, paper, thread and wood. I am also a collector of a breadth of small found objects, both organic and inorganic. Previously my work referenced domestic handicraft of the late 19th C. and early 20th C., in aesthetics and techniques. More recently it is an aggregate of the natural, artificial and modified.
I am influenced by history, story and enchantment in the everyday. Folklore and the feeling that there is something beneath the soil, in that stone or around the bend, something beyond our banal lives, has gone by the wayside. With my work I create the sense of another world or time, in an attempt to inspire others to look for it within their own lives.
